Go Back Bach-Circle: Christmas Oratorios and Contemporary Female Voices - Great Barrington

Johann Sebastian Bach’s fifth cantata Ehre sei dir, Gott, gesungen (Let honor be sung to you, O God) of his Christmas Oratorio is at the center of this Baroque Holiday program with some of the most festive Christmas cantatas for chorus, soloists and orchestra.

The other composers in Bach’s circle include his predecessors and contemporaries Johann Schelle (Advent cantata), Johann Rosenmüller (his Magnificat), Philip Erlebach,  Jeremias du Grain, and Dietrich Buxtehude, Bach's mentor.

In contrast to this repertoire stand intimate unaccompanied choral works by the contemporary North American female composers Emily Drum, MaryAnne Muglia, and Christine Donkin.

The performers are Crescendo Chorus & Vocal Ensemble, Paulina Francisco and Jordan Rose Lee, sopranos, Nicholas Tamagna, countertenor, Gene Stenger, tenor, Douglas Williams, bass, and Crescendo Period Instrument Orchestra, led by Christine Gevert

This concert will also be performed the previous day, Sat., December 28, 2024 at 4 pm at Trinity Church ~ 484 Lime Rock Rd., Lakeville, CT 06039
